SSL01 (Solar Street Light) - 2011
Location: Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
Client: Ministry of Housing and the Environment, Trinidad and Tobago
Project Status: Study - Complete
The design of the SSL01 is a result of the reinterpretation of the conventional street light and redefining the utilities of the public realm. The proposal was submitted with a local lighting manufacturer as part of a renewable energy initiative by the Ministry of Housing and the Environment, Trinidad and Tobago. The SSL01 operates as a low-cost solar powered pedestrian and motorist lighting system for the city. The lighting system performs a dual functionality during daylight hours through storing solar energy during the day while providing a sculptural element to the cityscape and infrastructure.
