City of Port of Spain - Public Realm Revitalisation Workshop , 2015
Location: Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
Client: European Business Chamber - Trinidad and Tobago
Project Status: Completed
M_A/D were invited by the European Business Chamber - Trinidad and Tobago to take part in and submit our approach on the revitalisation of the capital city of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
Port of Spain celebrated its 100th year as a capital city in 2014 and with the endorsement of the city's Mayor, is embarking on a program of renewal with local government organisations and stakeholders aiming to create a strong identity for the city within the wider Caribbean context.
In response to this, M_A/D took the critical approach of analysing local history and culture in conjunction with the complex issues of existing infrastructure within the city and the articulation of a series urban design interventions within these contexts.
Our approach resulted in combining a series of historic landmarks through a linear urban design strategy connecting the Queens Park Savannah (north) and the City Gate transport terminal (south) while simultaneously connecting the historic East Port of Spain district to the commercially vibrant City of Port of Spain.
